Kennedy, 65 fils Ludwig Erhard, 75 fils Lyndon Johnson, 90 fils Pandit Nehru, 100 fils Elenor Roosevelt. The somewhat confusing history of these stamps is given below.
January 15, 1954 Michel set 29-38 is issued with values of 5, 10, 15, 25, 35, and 50 cents and 1, 2, 5, and 10 shillings. July 1, 1966 Michel set 39-41 is issued with values of 70 cents, 1 shilling 25 cents, and 1 shilling 50 cents. April 1, 1966 The previous two sets are overprinted SOUTH ARABIA and surcharged from the old currency of 100 cents per shilling to the new currency of 1,000 fils per dinar. Michel 29, 32, 35, 38, 40 and 41 are overprinted in black. Michel 30, 31, 33, 34, 36, 37 and 39 fare overprinted in red (orange). The new set is Michel 42-54. August 13, 1966 The original two sets are again overprinted with the new currency. This time, additional colors are used for the overprints. Michel 29, 32, and 34 are blue. Michel 30 is red. Michel 31, 33, 36, 37 and 40 are orange. Michel 39 is brown. Michel 35, 38 and 41 are green. The new set is Michel 55-67. A black overprint on Michel 29 is known to exist. August 13, 1966 Michel 57, 59 and 61-67 are overprinted in red with the Olympic rings, the name of the host city, and the year they hosted. Black overprints are known to exist. The new set is Michel 68-76. July 30, 1966 Michel 57, 59, 61, 62 and 65-67 are overprinted in black for the London 1966 World Soccar Championship. The new set is Michel 77-683. January 1957 Michel 57, 59 and 61-67 are overptinted WORLD PEACE. Michel 57 is overprinted PANDIT NEHRU in red. Michel 59 and 66 are overprinted WINSTON CHURCHILL in red. Michel 61 is overprinted DAG HAMMARSKJOLD in blue. Michel 62 and 67 are overprinted JOHN F. KENNEDY in red. Michel 63 is overprinted LUDWIG ERHARD in red. Michel 64 is overprinted LYNDON JOHNSON in blue. Michel 65 is overprinted ELANOR ROOSEVELT in blue. The new set is Michel 99-107. Black overprintes are known to exist. 1967 Michel 57, 59, 61, 62, 65 and 66 are overprinted in red with the names of American astronauts Alan Shepard, Jr., Virgil Grissom, John Glenn, Jr., Scott Carpenter, Walter Schirra, Jr., and Gordon Cooper, Jr. respectively. The new set is Michel 116-1231. Black overprints are known to exist. |
