Press Release no. 1.

In the year 2001, Denmark will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the emission of its first stamp, the "4 Rigsbank Skilling", which was issued on April 1st, 1851.

In this connection, a large international stamp exhibition, HAFNIA 01, will take place in Copenhagen during the period, 16 to 21 October, 2001, organised by the Danish Philatelic Federation.

The aim is to focus on stamp collecting as a hobby which never gets out of fashion, a hobby for all ages, both young and old.

The motto of this exhibition is " Building Bridges", a topical motto at a time where Denmark within a short term of years inaugurates two large bridge-connections, respectively the Great Belt Bridge in 1998 - the second largest suspension bridge in the World - and in the year 2000 a combined bridge and tunnel between Denmark and Sweden.

The exhibition is focusing on how the stamps are building bridges

- between collectors in Denmark
- between collectors throughout the World
- between the Nations in the World
- between various interests
- to new collectors
- to the family as a whole.

HAFNIA 01, the Philatelist Olympics, is expected to attract many exhibitors, stamp dealers and stamp collectors from all over the World.

HAFNIA 01, being approved as a world philatelic exhibition by the FIP, will be held as a specialized exhibition with more than 2000 frames, divided into the competitive classes: Traditional, Thematic, Open Class and Literature.
