Patroness
Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark has generously consented to be Patroness of the exhibition.
This is an honour for the exhibition, and it is with great pleasure that we have received this acceptance from the only monarch in the world to have created works of art both on stamps and Christmas stamps.
The Queen's Copenhagen
In 1416 the royal residence was moved to Copenhagen, and since then the city has been the royal capital of Denmark. Nearly 600 years as a royal city has left many exciting and interesting traces, which today will add
extra value to a visit to Copenhagen.
Many of the sights of Copenhagen today have a direct relation to the royal
family and their history. During the reign of King Christian IV (1588
-1648) some of the more outstanding buildings of the city were erected,
such as The Old Stock Exchange, The Round Tower and Rosenborg Palace
The royal family resides at Amalienborg Palace during the winter and at Fredensborg Palace north of Copenhagen during the summer.
The Royal Danish Court has its own homepage: The Royal Danish Court (available in Danish only).
